On buycoffee.to, you can verify your identity in two ways: via mObywatel or via identt. Both paths lead to the same goal: making our platform a safe space for creators—where you can operate calmly, without stress and without pressure.
Verification isn’t meant to slow you down. It’s there to reduce impersonation, protect the supporting community, and keep payouts and settlement processes stable. The mechanism is simple: the more trust there is in the ecosystem, the lower the risk—and the easier it is to create at your own pace and on your own terms.
Why do we ask for verification?
The internet is more “professional” than ever—but also more vulnerable to abuse. Fake accounts, fraud attempts, and impersonation can hit creators the hardest: financially, reputationally, and emotionally. That’s why verification is part of building a safe haven—a place where you can grow your creative work without constantly looking over your shoulder.
And one important thing we want to say directly: verification does not mean additional obligations to your community. It’s not a “contract to always be available,” daily reporting, or a promise to publish on someone else’s schedule. It’s simply confirmation that the account belongs to the right person.
Verification via mObywatel: the fast route if you have the app
If you use the mObywatel app, this option is usually the most straightforward. In practice, it looks like this: you choose verification via mObywatel, log in to the app, scan the code shown on the screen, and share the required data. At the end, you record a short liveness video—a simple step that confirms to the system that there’s a real person on the other side, not a static photo or someone else’s materials.
This method often wins when you want to go through the process as smoothly as possible and without photographing your document.
Verification via identt: document + liveness video
If you don’t use mObywatel or you prefer a classic document-based verification, you can use identt. In this path, you take photos of your ID card or passport—front and back—and then record a short liveness video. The video plays a similar role as in mObywatel: it makes impersonation attempts harder and increases the security of the whole process.
This solution is universal—it works when mObywatel isn’t an option for you, or when you simply want to verify in the standard way.
What is “liveness” and why is this step needed?
“Liveness” is a technical term for a quick confirmation that a real person is completing the verification here and now, not someone trying to use a photo, a document scan, or other materials. At a time when fake accounts can look convincing, this is one of the simplest ways to protect creators and supporters without heavy, exhausting procedures.
Important: we operate as a Small Payment Institution and report to the KNF
It’s worth stating clearly: buycoffee.to operates as a Small Payment Institution (MIP). This means we function under the regulatory framework for payment services, and we fulfill reporting obligations to the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). In practice, that comes down to one key point: for us, security and compliance aren’t an “option”—they’re the standard.
That’s why identity verification (KYC) isn’t a “platform whim.” It’s part of an approach designed to protect you, your funds, and your community.
Legal compliance: which regulations are behind verification?
To keep it clear (and without legalese), our verification solutions are implemented in line with applicable regulations, in particular based on three pillars:
- The Payment Services Act — regulates how payment service providers (including MIPs) operate and sets requirements related to oversight and the security of payment processes.
- The AML Act — anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing regulations. In practice, AML requires applying so-called financial security measures, including identifying and verifying identity in justified cases.
- GDPR (RODO) and the data minimization principle — verification is not about “collecting everything,” but about processing only what’s necessary, with respect for privacy and proportionality to the purpose.
